Class Sessions–2026: REGISTER EARLY

Mixed Level Wheel:
Students of all skill levels—beginning, experienced and intermediate students are welcome. Beginner will learn the basic of working on the wheel—centering, opening, pulling, finishing—while more experienced students will be able to practice and hone skills to produce a body of work or one-of projects.
8 weeks: $300.00 (clay not included)
Sun. 4-7 p.m. – Fran Newquist
Wed. 10-1 p.m. – Fran Newquist
Wed. 7-10 p.m. – Jane Cullum
Fri. 1-4 p.m. – Jane Cullum
Intermediate Wheel:
Concentration on functional forms. Emphasis on skill building, form, decorating and glazing. Students may complete work for gas kiln for an additional firing fee.
8 weeks: $300.00 (clay not included)
Tue. 10-1 p.m. – Fran Newquist
Thu. 7-10 p.m. – Jane Cullum
Sat. 1-4 p.m. – Jane Cullum
Advanced Wheel:
Focus on development of an individual style through demonstrations and informal critiques. Special emphasis on decorating techniques. May complete work for gas, Raku and soda/kiln for an additional firing fee.
8 weeks: $300.00 (clay not included)
Mon. 6-9 p.m. – Fran Newquist
Thu. 10:30-1:30 p.m. – Jane Cullum
Mixed Level Hand-Building/Wheel:
All skill levels. Class covers instruction in hand-building, wheel, various glazes and decorating techniques. Students may choose to hand build, work on the wheel or a combination of wheel and hand. We will discuss studio glazes and application and other decorating techniques. Students may use the slab roller, extruder, and all available studio resources for making their projects.
8 weeks: $300.00 (clay not included)

Beginning Wheel for Teens:
Geared for the younger student. Great chance to learn the basics of the potters’ wheel in a relaxed, creative atmosphere. Students will learn basic throwing techniques – centering, opening and throwing small bowls and cylinders.
8 weeks: $250.00 (clay not included)
Thu. 4-6 p.m. – Jay Lerch
Class Clay: $40.00 / 25 lbs.
Private Class: $90.00 per student
Open Studio: $20.00 per hour
Student Lab:* $90.00 for 10 hours (available for students registered in current session)
Non-Student Lab: $100.00 for 10 hours
Studio Rental: $125.00 per month (1 shelf & use of studio wheels )
Resident Studio: $200.00 per month (24/7 access; must furnish own wheel)
Glaze Kitchen: $20.00 per hour plus cost of dry materials
Kitchen Procedure: Check in at front desk for a form, print out your recipe and information. Clean up required or future use of kitchen will be restricted. Use safety precautions – respirator, gloves, no food or drink in glaze kitchen area.
Glazes: We will make your glaze for a per pound cost which includes cost of dry materials, packaging and handling.
Pre-registration required for all classes. No on-line registration. Call or come in to register.
Make up: Students may make up one (1) missed class per session. You will receive a 3-hour make-up card to be used on your own not during a class. Card expires after session.
Refund policy: 100% of class will be refunded with request prior to first class or if class is cancelled. 50% refund prior to second (2nd) class. No refund after 2nd class.
Class fees listed are for instruction only. Students should anticipate additional costs for clay and tools.

The January 2026 classes are full, we start taking registration for the spring session in February. You can register in person or by phone. Hi Lori, sorry for the delay in responding, we try to keep information up to date but don’t actively monitor the website. You can sign up for classes by phone or in person and full payment is due upon registration. The January 2026 session is full, and we start taking registration for the Spring session in late February. You can find out more information by calling Manassas Clay directly at 703-330-1040
